Heritage Week Launch Promises Family Fun at Lough Muckno and Castleblayney Library on Saturday, 15th August

Families are invited to Lough Muckno and Castleblayney Library on Saturday, 15th August, for the launch of Monaghan Heritage Week, with a packed programme of activities celebrating the town’s history and heritage.

Event details: Saturday, 15th August, from 10.30am to 3pm.

At the Walled Garden in Lough Muckno, children can take part in The Big Dig, running from 11am to 3pm, with excavation sessions at 11am, 12 noon, 1pm and 2pm. Young participants will have the opportunity to excavate for artefacts and discover more about the past.

The day will also feature coin-making and coin pouch-making workshops, giving children the chance to create their own unique souvenirs to bring home.

Meanwhile, Castleblayney Library will host heritage storytelling sessions with Francis McCarron at 10.30am, 11.15am and 12 noon. The sessions will be inspired by his local heritage trails and the stories of the area.

The library will also launch its Heritage Scavenger Hunt, which will run throughout Heritage Week. Heritage Explorers will follow clues inspired by Castleblayney’s old streets, historic buildings, beautiful park and local landmarks.

Along the way, participants will discover fascinating facts about the people, places and events that have shaped the town over the years.

Heritage Scavenger Hunt forms can be collected from Castleblayney Library and returned completed for a chance to win prizes.

With activities for children and families throughout the day, the event promises an enjoyable and interactive way to discover Castleblayney’s rich local heritage.

Visitors are invited to follow the clues, uncover the stories and see if they can become a Castleblayney Heritage Explorer.
