Young readers in Castleblayney are being invited to get creative as Castleblayney Library hosts a special World Book Day 2026 Wooden Spoon Character Competition this March. 📖📚

To celebrate World Book Day on Thursday, 5 March 2026, children are encouraged to turn a simple wooden spoon into their favourite book character. From magical heroes to classic storybook favourites, the competition promises colour, creativity and plenty of imagination.

The event is part of the nationwide World Book Day celebrations, aimed at promoting reading for pleasure among children. By combining crafts with storytelling, the competition offers a fun, hands-on way for young people to connect with books.

Library staff are encouraging families to get involved and support children in bringing their characters to life.

Pop into the Library to collect your entry form and wooden spoon. 📆 Closing date: 28 February.
