Trip to Spain brings a successful conclusion to Erasmus Programme
Five young people from the Castleblayney area namely Caithlin Mc Clelland, Megan Kelly, Iosa Mc Court Ryan Mc Mahon and Gearoid Campbell have just returned from a 7 day visit of Caudete in Spain as part of a European programme organised by local group Castleblayney Community Enterprise.
This visit to Spain seen the completion of a special Erasmus Programme involving the participation of young people from Ireland (Castleblayney) and 3 other European countries namely Spain, France and Belgium which was coordinated by Castleblayney’s twinned town Marseillan in France. Through the Programme young people from all Countries involved travelled to the respective towns.
Castleblayney played their part in June earlier this year when 15 young people from the towns of Marseillan South France, Malmedy in Belgium and Caudete in Spain visited the town for 7 days. The groups were also joined by a number of young people from County Monaghan bringing the total number of participants to 20.
This visit and the visits to the other Countries April and August were co-ordinated through the offices of Castleblayney Enterprise Centre and were mainly conducted under the themes of sport, culture and history with a number of talks, presentations and activities carried out over their stays which addressed the themes.
Castleblayney Community Enterprise Chairperson Pete McMahon said, the visits were another important step in promoting awareness of Cultural diversity as well as promoting Castleblayney at a European level. He said, “the Board of Castleblayney Community Enterprise were delighted with the opportunity to be involved in the project and had no doubt that the many young people who participated benefited from their experiences and participation. He praised the management and staff of Castleblayney Enterprise Centre for their work in facilitating the various exchanges.
