Townsfolk were disappointed to learn the news that local man Mickey Murphy who had been sacristan of St. Mary’s Church for the past 36 years had decided to call it a day.
The popular sexton had succeeded his late father Pat Murphy in the job and was extremely well liked as he carried out the role over the years.
A special night’s tribute was organised last Saturday by the Dioceses of Clogher and Parish of Muckno to say thanks to him for his 36 years of generous service at St. Mary’s Church. Bishop Larry Duffy attended the event and led the celebration of Mass in St. Mary’s Church. It’s been an emotional evening with the wonderful choir making it extra special.
We take this opportunity to first of all thank Mickey for his years of service and devotion to the job and to wish him every success and enjoyment in his retirement.
