The public are invited to an event which has been organised to mark the retirement of Garda Pat Merrick, who has been stationed in the town since 1984.

The event is to take place on Tuesday next 1st November at 7pm in Concra Wood Golf Club and all are welcome.

Pat has become one of the longest serving members in the town having spent the entirety of his 38 year membership of an Garda in the town. Pat is a popular figure and is one of the best-known members of the local station due to his various roles and positions in a variety of local voluntary groups. Most noteworthy is his contribution and dedication to the work of Castleblayney Tidy Towns, which has spanned for over 20 years. Pat was also heavily involved in the local Macra Club for many years back in his early years in the town.

Originally from Claremorris, Co. Mayo, Pat who met and married Frances another serving member at the time has three sons Colin, Ronan and Niall. He was recently chosen from the region to be on a special unit of trained pallbearers to officiate at state funerals.

On behalf of the Community, we wish to thank Pat for his dedication in his role serving our community with distinction and to wish him health and happiness in his retirement.
