Castleblayney to get New Library Facility

Castleblayney is to get a new library facility which will be located at the entrance to the Hope Castle estate. The town library which was previously located in the Market House building in the town center before its demise and had short stays in the Gate House and Enterprise Centre before its move to the present Íontas Centre location.

Monaghan County Council have now embarked on an exciting project which will see it revert back to one of its own properties which is the Gate House building on the left hand side of the entrance to Hope Castle.

The Gate House will undergo a major transformation which comprises of a splendid extension to the rear of the property leading to the towns newly developed play park.

The development which is to provide a modern public library, gallery space and cultural and creative space is part of an ongoing plan to regenerate the Market Square area. This follows on from the recent development and reuse of the Gate House at the right hand side on the entrance to the estate.

Funding has also just been obtained to formulate a plan and study for the eventual re-development and refurbishment of the Market House building structure which is now in a serious state of dereliction. 

It is estimated that the cost of the new library facility will cost in the region of €3.3 million.
