Mural erected recognising achievements of Eugene 'Nudie' Hughes

A mural created to recognise the sporting achievements of Castleblayney native Eugene 'Nudie' Hughes has been recently erected on York Street next door to where Nudie grew up with his nine siblings.

The painting shows the Castleblayney Faughs man in action with a list of all his achievements. During his football playing career the sporting hero won nine Senior Football Championships for his club and other football and hurling accolades. He became a household name nationally with his successes in winning three football All Star awards in the Monaghan jersey.

The artwork was commissioned by the Castleblayney Regeneration Committee and the artist is Ciaran Dunlevy.
