Market Square Access Fully Restored

All roads around the Market House in Market Square, Castleblayney have nowbeen fully reopened. The roads were closed in January 2019, following a collapse of internal walls in the Market House, which presented a danger to public safety.

The extensive works under the guidance of a conservation architect Hegarty Contractors, included the removing the roof, bracing the walls and stabilizing the structure.

With the works now completed this will facilitate the completion of a detailed structural survey on the building, which will form a key element of the plans to restore the Market House.

The removal of safety fencing around the Market House also reopens access to the Big Tom Statue in the Square, which is attracting large numbers of visitors on a weekly basis.
