Homecoming for Hurling Heroes

There were jubilant scenes on Castleblayney’s Main Street on Sunday evening last when the Castleblayney Hurling team arrived home after their epic performance in the All Ireland Final.

Written off as underdogs the mighty men of Blayney even took a four point lead in the second half and it seemed were on course to rewrite the script. However Dunamaggin the Killkenny Champions led by Noel Hickey, who has no less than nine All Ireland medals rallied and finished the strongest to cruelly claim All Ireland victory.

Defeated but not disgraced, this heroic performance by a young Castleblayney team, who were far from fazed by their first All Ireland appearance in Croke Park have certainly laid down a marker for the future.

A proud day for the players and their families and a very proud day for Castleblayney.
