The Playboy of the Western World

The local drama group, Castleblayney Players presents their classic Irish comedy from the early 20th century tilted ‘The Playboy of The Western World’ written by John Millington Synge. The show will take place this Thursday 18th, Friday 19th & Saturday 20th October in Íontas Theatre, Conabury, Castleblayney at 8pm.

This story is about a young man, Christy, who has been walking the roads for days, arrives in a strange pub and attempts to be a hero to the locals and a prospective husband to Pegeen by boasting that he has killed his tyrant father. There is much humour as Pegeen’s fiancée and a local widow get involved in the romance, and there are twists and turns as Christy’s story of murder unfolds.

The cast in this play includes some new, young actors. In leading roles Hannah Duffy & Pat Kerley supported by David O’Neill and regulars Francis G.Duffy, Pauline Clarke, Nicky Hore, Jim O’Neill, David Maine & Paddy Crilly.  Also new are Shauna Mc Mahon, Eimear Mc Eneaney, Ellen Matthews, Moirin Lanney and Niall Rusk.
