Care of the Older Person

The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to meet the full range of needs of older people in a variety of care settings.
Learners will be introduced to a range of age related issues. They will analyse the roles of the health care assistant, explore a range of older people's needs, discuss the issues related to an older person with mental illness, recognise the individual needs of the dying older person, explore a range of specific services that are available for older people, employ effective communication with the older person, exercise duties in a way that is respectful to the person’s body after death and give assistance in the identification of how health promotion issues can be promoted in care settings.

Duration: Total of 150 hours - 50 hours Tutor led

Assessment mode: 60% Skills demonstration     40% Project

Entry Requirements: Good command of the English language with a proficient level of literacy and numeracy. Some previous experience in a Healthcare setting along with Garda Vetting is desirable
