Castleblayney school welcomed students from Poland as part of the Erasmus programme

Last Monday morning Scoil na gCailíní, Castleblayney welcomed a small group of children and their teachers from Gorzow town in Poland, who came for a week as part of the Erasmus Exchange programme. The group of visitors included six children, Karol, Symon, Maja, Sofia, Lena and Olga and their two teachers Karolina and Anna. The girls from Scoil na gCailíní presented traditional Irish singing, music, dancing, poetry and drama as aspects of Irish culture for the guests.

The Erasmus Exchange programme is funded by the EU to support education, training, youth and sport in Europe. Activities throughout the week of this Exchange included visits to the Alms Houses and Hope Castle; learning GAA skills, making scones, a few trips to Lough Muckno and a trip to Scotch Corner Recycling Centre. Scoil na gCailíní principal Paula Coleman hope her students will pay a return visit to Poland next year. As part of the Erasmus Exchange programme Scoil na gCailíní also collaborates with other schools in Sweden, France, Spain and Italy and will host the Italian school the following May.
