Castleblayney Players present An Evening of One-Acts
On Thursday November 3rd in Iontas Theatre, Castleblayney Players will perform three short plays, each one very different in its writing, but offering an entertaining variety of drama.
Jim O’Neill directs Riders to the Sea by J.M.Synge, a classic Irish drama from 1904 that portrays a family whose livelihood comes from the sea but also suffers from the destruction that the sea brings. The main characters are played by Carmel Allen, Emma Duffy, Eimear McEneaney and Ryan McMahon.
Kevin McGeough, whose writings on the War of Independence have been previously published, has written, and directs The Trial of James Finnegan, a brief, dramatic piece on an incident that took place locally during the fight against British rule at that time. Kevin himself portrays General Eoin O’Duffy, Shane Cumiskey plays Dan Hogan, and the cast also includes Nicky Hore, Jim O’Neill and Ryan McMahon.
Emma Duffy directs Caught in the Act by American comedy writer, Bruce Kane. A couple are in bed together; did they or didn’t they, during the night? Is this real or are the two characters stuck in a play? Will they succeed in sorting out their relationship or are they trapped in never-ending re-writes? This clever, comedic look at romance is performed by Heather Hennessy and Jack Woods.
We are delighted to support new writing and introduce new talent to directing and acting. We look forward to seeing your support for local theatre.
