Castleblayney’s Annual Fair Day yet Another Success

Castleblayney Fair day took place on Sunday past and once again the Main Street of Castleblayney was transported back to the early 1900’s, reconstructing a Fair similar to that of what would have taken place in towns across Ireland for hundreds of years.

The scenes from days gone by were replicated again this year through all manner of props, costumes and the wonderful atmosphere that was created on Blayney Street for the day.

The town was buzzing with the sights, sounds & smells of years gone by. There were presentations of old style working methods on display including steam engines, thrashing machines, old farm machinery & tractors and farm animals.  There were craft demonstrations, blacksmiths, farriers, tinsmiths and butter churners. Also for the younger folk there were plenty of amusements.

The events continued throughout the day and into the evening with dancing and singing and a nostalgic look back at what early 1900’s Castleblayney would have looked like on a day like this.

Well done to the organisers and to everyone who participated in making this great day possible!
