Big Tom Festival Weekend

It was evident that Tom McBride was a true country music legend as thousands of Big Tom fans travelled from across Ireland and further afield to Castleblayney for `Big Tom Festival` which took place 21st to 23rd September.

The weekend events incorporated a concert, dance, Big Tom-themed quiz, the opening of a “Music Wall of Fame” and the unveiling of The Big Tom Statue.

The commemorative bronze statue of the much-loved singer created by sculptor, Mark Richards was officially revealed by the family and President Michael D Higgins on Sunday 23rd September in Castleblayney’s Market Square.  

The unveiling of a “Music Wall of Fame” which was created to recognise the contribution of 19 artists to the musical heritage of Castleblayney, took place on Saturday 22nd September.

The weekend events were made possible by Castleblayney Regeneration Committee who operates under the auspices of Carrickmacross/Castleblayney Municipal District.
