Successful Pre-Festival Celebration in Íontas

The Muckno Mania Festival Committee held a successful pre-festival celebration in Íontas on Saturday night last 16th June to recognise their 20th year milestone.  The event was staged as an opportunity to launch this year’s festival as well as acknowledging the Committees success in staging of the festival for 20 consecutive years.

The festival continues to be staged as a family festival, which promotes sport and music with a particular focus on the arts.

The festival is driven by a dedicated group of individuals who work unselfishly each year to stage one of the most important and invaluable events in the town’s annual calendar. The Muckno Mania Festival was first introduced by Castleblayney Community Enterprise and they continue to provide the management and resources to support the committee, which in turn ensure that the festival has lasted for 20 years.

The night included a welcome address by Gary Ogle, who is the newly elected Chairperson of Castleblayney Community Enterprise and he thanked everyone for taking the time to attend on the night, with a particular mention to sponsors and committee members past and present.

A special moment on the night was also created when Erin Brady assisted Wilbert to cut a cake to mark his 12th Birthday.  Erin who was attending Junior School in 2007 won the festival competition to pick a name for the new Festival Mascot.

Following this event Festival Chairman Tommy McGuire gave a comprehensive summary and background on the evolution of the Muckno Mania Festival over the past 20 years. Tommy also praised and acknowledged the generous contributions the festival receives from local businesses and the goodwill that they afford the festival.  He recognised in particular the local firms, who came on board as main sponsors in 2009 and those who have continued that generous involvement.
