The Runner McGough Book Launch

Last Saturday night 9th December saw the launch of the much talked about book, titled “The Runner McGough”.

The launch took place in the Íontas theatre at 7.30pm and was performed by Catherina McKiernan acclaimed Irish and International athlete.

A great night was had by all and was superbly chaired by Aidan Campbell who intertwined proceedings with contributions from Nudie Hughes, Joe Hanratty, Gerry Brady (Cavan GAA), Alan Clarke (Blayney Rockets), Dessie Duffy (Muckno Tri), Patsy McArdle (journalist), Paul McCarthy, Padraig Watters, Seamus McEneaney and Tom Griffin (Blackhill GFC).  

The book which tells a remarkable story of a local man John McGough, who achieved greatness in the early 1900’s and later became immersed in G.A.A history.

The book has been written by a local man Tommy McGuire in which he also outlines McGough’s involvement with Celtic FC, Manchester United and Cavan all Ireland teams 1947 and 1948.

The book is being sold in local Castleblayney shops: Supervalu, Centra, Loughman Sports, Íontas, Watters Londis and the Enterprise Community Centre. It’s also available in Eason’s Monaghan and Cavan.
