A Silent Walk of Remembrance

A Silent Walk of Remembrance organised by Shabra Charity Foundation will take place on Thursday 30th November in Lough Muckno, Castleblayney at 7.45pm. Please bring a torch or light.

The event is in aid of the Monaghan Room and Gene Testing Facility in the Mater Hospital.

The Monaghan Room in the Mater Hospital, Dublin will house the first ever Next Generation DNA Gene Sequence equipment in Ireland. Shabra Charity has been fundraising to ensure this machine is in place by September 2017 to honour the promise that Oliver Brady, the co-founder of the Shabra Charity Foundation made to the Mater Hospital to fundraise and provide this facility.

Mater consultant Professor Peter O'Gorman said that up to now these adult tests had to be sent abroad - but the new laboratory will enable the state-of-the-art analysis to be carried out in this Ireland.

The Next Generation Sequencing Laboratory will also be used to help with the diagnosis and treatment of people with other conditions, including cancer and blindness, as well as assisting research in these areas.
