Castleblayney welcomes new Heritage Trail for visitors to Castleblayney

A new “Heritage Trail” which is being promoted by The Castleblayney Regeneration Committee is set to further enhance the visitor experience and create much local interest in the town’s historical past.

Over the past few years the Muckno Heritage Society was involved in designing a walking route to showcase the wide diversity of historical and architectural heritage that the town of Castleblayney has to offer.

The first phase of the plan was to erect of a new sign posting outlining the circular route within the town boundary. This is to enable both visitors and the local people to appreciate and learn how the various buildings evolved in the town and to understand why their preservation is so important for the area and its future development.

The Heritage Trail is circular for most part and can be picked up at any point, but the starting and finishing point is at the Castle Square just inside the gates of the Blayney/Hope Castle Estate.

Over the coming weeks the Heritage Trail developers will outline the history of the Hope Castle and wider estate.
