Success of Castleblayney’s 5th Fair Day

Once again the Main Street of Castleblayney was transported back to the early 1900’s, recreating a Fair similar to that of what would have taken place in towns across Ireland for hundreds of years.

The scenes from days gone by were replicated again this year through all manner of props, costumes and the wonderful atmosphere that was created on Blayney Street for the day. The weather also played its part, with the sun shining on all the day’s activities.

The town was buzzing with the sights, sounds & smells of years gone by. There were presentations of old style working methods on display including steam engines, thrashing machines, old farm machinery & tractors.  There were craft demonstrations, blacksmiths, farriers, tinsmiths and butter churners. You could savour baked homemade bread, fruit, jams etc. and have a good old fashioned cup of tea. Also for the younger folk there were plenty of amusements.

The crowds attending the event also played their part, with many dressing up in old world, period style dress and taking part in some traditional Fair Day activities – dancing, music playing, singing etc…

The events continued throughout the day and into the evening with dancing and singing and a nostalgic look back at what early 1900’s Castleblayney would have looked like on a day like this.

Well done to the organisers Castleblayney Vintage Club and to everyone who participated in making this great day possible!
