The annual Castleblayney Drama Festival is nearly upon us and the banners and signs are being put in place around the town. We are bigger and better this year with 9 nights of top class drama from around the country.
Opening night is always a special night with the Festival launch in Iontas Foyer from 7pm where local art group The Green Door will have an exhibition. At 8pm in the theatre we will have the Official Opening by Gabrielle Tuomey who is well known for her teaching and drama work with the students of Our Lady’s, as well as appearing on stage in Iontas herself.
Each night after the play the audience will be given something to think about as our Adjudicator, Tommy Mc Ardle, shares his views on the play. All the drama groups will be listening intently to his words as they travel the Festival Circuit in search of points to bring them, possibly, to an All-Ireland Final.
There will be a Festival Club this year on the Opening and Closing Nights in the Iontas Foyer after the play, where there will be music and refreshments as well as the bar.
An interesting Fringe Event is being hosted by Transition Monaghan on Saturday March 4th starting 2pm at the Gate House, Castle Square, until 5pm. Called “Every Blooming Thing” it will connect art, nature and people.
As always, we are indebted to our main Sponsors: Monaghan County Council, Mc Mahon’s Supervalu, Castleblayney Credit Union, Grant Thornton, Glencarn Hotel, Watters’ Old Coach Inn, AIB Bank.
We also greatly appreciate the generous donations from local businesses and individuals as well as the many Friends of the Festival.
