Rehearsals are nearly finished and Michael Carey’s comedy “Thy Will Be Done” will soon be having audiences laughing when Castleblayney Players take to the stage in Iontas Theatre next Thursday November 3rd, Friday 4th & Saturday 5th.
Regulars may be surprised to hear that it has been 25 years since this local drama group put on their first play and, since then, have performed a variety of drama productions by Irish and international writers. The plays have ranged from comic farce to family dramas to more experimental work. The group’s aim has been to reach the highest standards in all aspects of our productions, whether acting, directing or technical.
“Thy Will Be Done”, written by Michael Carey from Galway, has been very successful around the country and also enjoyed a run in America. Our production is headed by Director, Jim O’Neill, no stranger to the stage himself, who takes the baton to guide the actors through their paces. The story is set in the summer of 1998, in an old outhouse where Jack (Francis Gerard Duffy) has been living for nearly 40 years after falling out with his brother Peteen (Nicky Hore) who remained in the family home. Peteen’s wife had already left him before her son, Martin (Roraidh Irwin), was born and Martin has returned from America to meet his father. In the middle is Bridie (Mary Brennan) a local housekeeper who steers a course around the feuding brothers and the fun loving Martin and is not slow to offer her own opinion on matters. This drama of family feuds, set in rural Ireland where religion is still strong and where marriage can either be difficult to attain or not work out at all, has many hilarious scenes with a sharp, witty script and characters that will have you laughing out loud. Behind the scenes we have Carmel Allen & Emma Duffy working on Stage Management and Paul O’Neill on lights & sound. Thanks also are due to the set crew who do the unseen work of lifting, hammering, painting etc - Austin Geoghegan, Bernard Dunne, Ronan Duffy, Conall Duffy, David O’Neill.
Have a fun night out next week in Iontas. Starts 8pm.
