Castleblayney Town will host this much anticipated event on Saturday 24th September.
The town will once again be transported back to the early 1900’s, recreating a Fair similar to that of what would have taken place in towns across Ireland for hundreds of years. On the day the scene will be recreated through all manner of props, costumes, photographs, period clothing and a sprinkling of nostalgia from interesting tales of the good old days!
This is a day not to be missed, as it provides the people of Castleblayney with the opportunity to reminisce or indeed learn about what a day like this entails. So why not get into the spirit of the day by dressing up in period clothing and getting involved! Fancy dress shop – False Impressions in the Enterprise Centre can help with any clothing ideas.
The Fair Day was an important part of the social calendar in days gone by. Days like these were vital for the economy as they allowed townspeople to sell their produce ranging from farm produce, vegetables, home bakes and handmade clothing. The day was also of great social importance allowing people the opportunity to catch up and converse about their daily lives and current events in the country.
To celebrate Castleblayney’s Annual Fair Day, Iontas will host a Cultural Night on Wednesday 21st September at 8pm. This promises to be a great night of storytelling, music, song and dance. Raffle tickets will be sold on the night for a grand prize draw which takes place on The Fair Day itself – Saturday 24th September.
