Castleblayney has now signed up to the Age Friendly City and County Programme.
This programme aims to create the kinds of communities in which older people live autonomous and valued lives.
They do this by undertaking focused activities that aim to fulfil ambitious goals related to each of the Age Friendly themes. Some of these include Outdoor Spaces and Buildings, Housing, Social Participation, Transportation, Respect & Social Inclusion, Communication & Information, Community Supports and Health Services.
In total 21 businesses have agreed to participate, meaning each business will adopt this practice and provide specific services that will assist the elderly within the Community.
Each shop will then be classified as an age-friendly shop and have received their certificate also.
This initiative will see Monaghan as one of the first to take up participation on the programme.
