Iontas Theatre, Castleblayney, has some exciting events coming up this March and April. There is an eclectic mix of both film and music, so there is sure to be something for everyone!
As part of the Film Club, first up we have the "The Heart Pounding story of a British Soldier left behind." in ’71.
’71 on Wednesday 23rd March 8 p.m.Admission is: €7 1971, and the conflict in Northern Ireland is escalating towards civil war. Young English recruit Gary is called into action in Belfast. The situation in the city is confusing and challenging – even for experienced military commanders. Gary and a fellow soldier follow the thief who disappears into the crowd. Suddenly Gary is having to fend for himself alone in the midst of enemy territory. His journey back to his base that night is an odyssey filled with uncertainty, fear and desperation.
For traditional and country music fans alike there is a real treat in store with both Sharon Shannon and Philomena Begley and Ray Lynam who play in April.

Philomena Begley and Ray Lynam on Saturday 9th April 8 30pm.Admission is: €26 Come and see the Queen of Irish Country musicPhilomena Begleyand Ray Lynam this April! Begley has regularly toured with Ray Lynam since 1975 and they have recorded many duets together. The pair are back again with the unmissable 'Two of Us' tour. Special Guests Aidan Quinn and Ireland's New Country Star Cliona Hagan.
Sounds of Our Land on Sunday 10th April at 8 pm. Admission is: €13/11. This event celebrates the musical and cultural heritage of 1916 and the century that followed. Bringing together some of Monaghan’s finest musical practitioners all works performed will be compositions or arrangements by Irish composers/songwriters from the last century.
