Primary Schools Across Ireland to Participate in the “Flags for Schools” Initiative

All primary schools across the country will participate in the “Flags for Schools” initiative today, 15th March, Proclamation Day, which is also known as the 1916 Proclamation or the Easter Proclamation.

Each school has received the National flag and a copy of the Proclamation delivered by members of the Defence Forces over the past months, in advance of the 1916 Commemorations.

In ceremonies all across Ireland the Irish flag will be raised and readings of the Proclamation for a new generation, that reflects the values, aspirations and ideals of this theis the generation of 2016, will also be heard.

Primary schools throughout Castleblayney and surrounding areas will be taking part in this historic event that happens once in a generation.

The aim of this initiative is to remember all those who fought in 1916. It recognises their sacrifice so that the flag could be flown by the Irish people and so Ireland could take its place amongst the free nations of the world.
