The organisers of the Supervalu Castleblayney 5K were delight this week as endurance athlete Gerry Duffy signed up to run alongside former Irish International Athlete David Matthews on Sunday the 29th of November at 2pm .Gerry who is a professional speaker and writer on ‘motivation’ and ‘goal setting’, has a sporting CV which has seen him complete some of the hardest endurance challenges on the planet. Indeed Gerry who has been regular attender at the Castleblayney 5K explained the attraction of the event during the week, “ The Mc Mahon Castleblayney 5K is quiet an unique event , it has an ability to provide a good competitive race as well as been a huge community event , the atmosphere as you run back into the town is fantastic with large crowds cheering all the participants home , the event in the Glencarn is always really interesting , over the years there have been some great athletes interviewed on the stage you always learn something new from the question and answers sessions.I have been a great fan of the Operation TransFAUGHSmation programme this is a real community initiative which real does make a positive impact on people lives, the fact that it finishes with so many of the participants finishing the 5K Walk/Run is a credit not alone to the those people but also to motivational powers of the leaders, I regularly refer to the event wherever I go on my travels around Ireland.”
